(COLDWATER) – The City of Coldwater will begin their Fall hydrant flushing on Monday.
In a posting on the City of Coldwater website, the Coldwater Board Of Public Utilities will start their semi-annual hydrant flushing on Monday, and will be finished on Friday, September 19. The flushing will take place from 6 AM until 10 PM each day. While hydrant flushing takes place, motorists should proceed with caution through the detour area.
The flushing will start in Ward 1, then move to Ward 4, Ward 2 and Ward 3. This process will ensure water quality and that the City’s water distribution systems are working properly.
City officials say during this time, residents may notice a slight discoloration in their water due to mineral deposits being stirred up and flushed through the system. If this occurs, slowly run cold water out of the faucet until the water becomes clear. There are no health hazards associated with discolored water. The water is safe to use and consume, but it may stain laundry, so the CBPU suggests that residents do their laundry prior to hydrant flushing.
Additionally, hydrant flushing is a great time to flush hot water heaters, improving the quality and efficiency.
For additional questions, please contact the CBPU’s Water Department at 517-279-4805.
