(MILLERSBURG) – A child is dead after being struck by a car, and a suspect is in custody.
LaGrange County Chief Deputy Sheriff Juan Arroyo says on Monday, deputies were notified of a personal injury accident in the 1000 west block of County Road 600 South.
Investigators say 25 year old Eric Estrada of Ligonier was driving a 2015 Mercedes Benz east on County Road 600 South, and struck a seven year old child who was crossing the road. The child, identified as Alivia Miller, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers say Estrada was under the influence of a controlled substance and is being held in the LaGrange County Jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. His bond is set at $30,000.
The matter remains under investigation.
