STEUBEN COUNTY - Steuben County Emergency Management Director Lee Greenamyer announced Steuben County will be participating in the statewide Tornado Warning test for Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Greenamyer stated on Tuesday, March 12 at approximately 10:15 a.m., the
National Weather Service (NWS) of Northern Indiana, the Indiana Department of
Homeland Security, and the Indiana Broadcasters Association plan to conduct a live code Tornado Warning test throughout most of the state of Indiana.
During this time, messages will be broadcast over television and radio through the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
In collaboration with the statewide Tornado Warning test, Steuben
County will also participate by activating tornado sirens across the county.
This test will provide an opportunity for businesses, schools, and residents to participate by enacting their response plans to a severe weather event/threat.
The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana states, “In the event of
significant weather hazards in Indiana on the morning of March 12, the test will be postponed to Wednesday, March 13 at 10:15 a.m. EDT and will be preceded by another Public Information Statement announcing the change.”
Steuben County Emergency Management encourages all businesses and residents of Steuben County to take some time this week to review their severe weather response plans. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Ask the following questions:
1) How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings?
2) What is my shelter plan?
3) What is my evacuation route?
4) What is my family/household communication plan?
5) Do I need to update my emergency preparedness kit?
