The Noble County Sheriff’s Department would like to warn everyone of scams occurring in our area.
There is a scam where the scammer is letting people know that the transaction number from your Kendallville Wal-Mart receipt is being entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $1,000.00 gift card. This is done by text messaging and somehow the scammer is able to enter your name in the text.
Wal-Mart has been contacted and there is no $1,000.00 gift card give
away. Also the scam where an individual calls saying they are your
grandson/granddaughter and are in jail needing bonded out and needing cash wired to them is again occurring.
Please don’t fall for these scams. If you receive a call from a facility or someone such as a relative wanting bonded out of jail, ask for the facilities number, hang up and call the facility to see if the person is actually there.
When in doubt ask questions then ask more questions. Scammers will do
anything and say anything to convince one to fork over your hard earned cash.
Please stay alert.
