Following a one-year hiatus after safety concerns led to confusion and a somewhat muted event, the Town of Waterloo is preparing for the annual pass-through of the Canadian Pacific Railroad “Holiday Train.”
The community is again scheduling a block party set to coincide with the arrival of the festive freight train on the night of Saturday, Nov. 30.
Canadian Pacific officials last year announced that the train would be dark as it made its way through Waterloo. They were concerned about crowds that have grown in recent years and, in particular, spectators creeping close to the tracks and endangering their safety.
The train, however, was illuminated with decorative lights when it chugged through town. Extra steps are being taken to address the situation this year and allow visitors to enjoy the show.
Railroad security will be in Waterloo and patrons are being warned it is not only unsafe but also a crime to trespass on the tracks. Those attending the block party will be directed to remain at least 15 feet from the tracks.
Additional information is posted at the Town of Waterloo website.
