
DeKalb County, IN - The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a stabbing incident that took place Tuesday night in St. Joe.
Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a 23 year old male who was stabbed just before 11 p.m.. Reports indicate a male suspect had fled the scene on foot.
A DeKalb County canine officer initiated a track, and eventually located the suspect attempting to hide in bushes in the 6200 block of State Road 1, roughly a half mile away from the original stabbing scene. The suspect, identified as Leslie J. Swindell, and was apprehended and later booked into the DeKalb County Jail on a Level 3 Felony charge of Aggravated Battery.
The victim was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital in fair condition.
The incident remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police Crime Scene Detectives. More charges are possible, due to the ongoing investigation.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the DeKalb County Air Support Team, Butler Police Department, Indiana State Police, Parkview DeKalb, and the Southeast Fire Department.
