Over 30 fire departments from across four counties in Northwest Ohio battled a fire at the Metal X scrapyard in Delta that started late Monday night and continued deep into Tuesday morning.
Two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion while battling the fire, and were later treated by local health professionals.
While the blaze was massive in size, officials are reporting that there are no major concerns to air quality. Fire crews and Metal X employees worked on moving steel and separated the piles of scrap in order to get a handle on the flames.
As of early this morning, local firefighers reporting of using over 10,000 gallons of water to the fire in just one hour alone, as crews later had to make several trips to the reservoir to get enough water to continue the fight.
Crews were on scene all night fighting the fire and expect to be at the scene today, as well as most of tomorrow keeping the blaze under control and plan to let it burn out over the next several days.
