COLDWATER, Mich. – A Coldwater man with a history of problems with the law has had his most recent case bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
Branch County District Court officials say that 45 year old Matthew Collins waived his preliminary hearing. He is facing two counts of child abusive activity or material, and a charge of using a computer to commit a crime.
Online court documents show that the most recent charges against Collins were brought after Michigan State Police investigated a tip that was passed along to them from the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children. The tip alleged that Collins had been having a continuing conversation with a child on Twitter.
Court documents show that Collins was sentenced to serve between 5 and 15 years after pleading guilty to being in possession of child sexually abusive material as a fourth time habitual offender. He was paroled in December 2021 after having served the minimum of four years and ten months.
Court officials say a plea has been agreed upon between Collins and the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office on the most recent charge. A hearing has been set for April 3.
