ANGOLA, IN - An Angola City Police Officer has been honored by the the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute as an “expert” instructor.

Angola City Police Officer Matt Kling was awarded with the Drug Recognition Expert Instructor of the Year.

Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) play an instrumental role in keeping Indiana's roads and communities safe. They receive specialized training to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs. Because of their training, they are often called upon by law enforcement to assist with traffic stops with the goal of keeping impaired drivers off the road.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute created the Indiana Drug Recognition Expert Awards Program in 2016.
