(COLDWATER) – For the second time in six days, Branch County has a new County Treasurer.
Last week, a three person committee selected Debra Bracy of Quincy to become the County Treasurer. However, Bracy decided to turn down the offer.
The committee, made up of Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, Probate Court Judge Kirk Kashian and County Prosecutor Zach Stempien, met again on Wednesday and offered the job to Steven Rutz of Coldwater, who said yes.
Rutz and Bracy were the candidates interviewed last week by the Committee. They were selected out of five individuals who applied for the vacant position. The County Treasurer’s seat became open after Julie Waterbury resigned from the position effective September 24, after she accepted the job of Chief Financial Officer with Grand Ledge Community Schools.
Waterbury was elected County Treasurer in November 2020.
The seat will be back up for election in 2022. Rutz can file his paperwork and chose to run for his own term at that time.
