(UNION CITY) – A search for a person of interest led to the lockdown of Union City Schools for a time on Wednesday.

The Union City Police Department says they requested the precautionary lockdown after they received information about a person of interest, that was connected to an investigation in another jurisdiction, that was reportedly in the Union City area.

The request was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of students and staff of Union City Schools. The lockdown was lifted after further information confirmed there was no threat to the school or community.

Union City Police say they appreciate the cooperation of Union City Schools, students, staff, and parents during this time.

Assisting the Union City Police was the Branch County Sheriffs Office, Michigan State Police and the staff at Branch County 911 Central Dispatch.
