Road Rage On I69 Between DeKalb And Allen Counties

DEKALB COUNTY - A road rage incident took place on Interstate 69 between DeKalb and Allen Counties on the afternoon of Friday, September 22.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said at 11:47 a.m. on I-69 southbound between mile markers 329 – 317 an off-duty Indiana State Police Trooper was driving
southbound on I-69 near the 329 exit when a semi-truck driver allegedly pointed a firearm at him.

The ISP Trooper was not in uniform, nor was he in a police vehicle at this time. The trooper also had two occupants at the time, a male adult and a male juvenile.

The trooper called 911 asking for emergency
assistance.

The trooper drove behind the suspect vehicle and gave updated locations as they continued south into Allen County.

The vehicles eventually exited at the 317 (Union Chapel) exit, where they continued eastbound.

Officers from the Indiana State Police and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and took the driver, James
Miller Schwartz, 33, of Lima, Ohio, into custody.

During the course of the investigation evidence was
obtained that was relevant to the initiating call.

No firearm discharges were reported during the incident.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident. James was arrested and charged with pointing a loaded firearm, a level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
