Doumont Leads Trine Women’s Golf to Win At Home Tournament

ANGOLA, IN - Junior Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) shot a tournament-low 78 to lead the Trine University women's golf team to a team victory at the Fall Kickoff Classic at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, IN.

As a team, Trine finished with a team score of 339 strokes and finished 14 shots ahead of Olivet (MI) College in second place who had an overall score of 353 strokes. Adrian (MI) College rounded out the three-team field with 368 strokes.

Doumont carded a season-low six-over par 78 strokes to take top individual honors among 24 participants. Sophomore Maire Sullivan had the second lowest score for the team with an 80 and placed second overall for the tournament. Junior Karlee Fackler was third overall with a round of 85 strokes.

Sophomore Lily Williamson ended the afternoon with a round of 96 strokes to finish in the top-15 and tied for 14th overall. Sophomore Reagan Guthrie completed the varsity scores with an even 100 strokes and tied for 19th place.

Four other players competed as individuals with senior Olivia Phillips posting a low round of 89 strokes to finish in the top-10 in a tie for seventh place. Freshman Kelly Miller was next at 93 strokes (12th) and the duo of sophomores Carlene Rutledge and Anabelle Burkholder rounded out the Trine players with rounds of 111 and 114 strokes, respectively.

Trine will next compete in the Adrian Invitational hosted by Adrian College on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Hills of Lenawee Golf Course in Adrian, Mich. The single-round tournament is set to begin at 1 p.m.
