NASCAR Engines Roared Giving Sports Fans Hope
Monday, May 18, 2020

There were no fans in the stands but the roar of the engines was a sign of hope after months without live sports.

NASCAR chose Darlington, the oldest speedway on the Cup circuit, as the safest place to restart the season after eight events were postponed.

Even though the grandstands were completely empty, when the engines fired at Darlington Raceway following a 10-week layoff during the coronavirus pandemic, it turned into a regular old race. Kevin Harvick beat Alex Bowman to win NASCAR's first race back, a spectacle closely watched to see if the largest motorsports series in the United States could successfully return to the track.
