Newman Hospitalized After Last Lap Daytona 500 Crash

In a fierce battle for the win ending in the second closest finish in the races' 62 year history, the Daytona 500 ended Monday Night on a note that left racers and fans in a state of shock and concern.

While battling for the win, South Bend, Indiana native Ryan Newman suffered a violent crash coming to the finish line that resulted in the car flipping on its side and being hit in the top of the car by an on-coming vehicle.

Newman was transported from the track to nearby Halifax Medical Center where a statement later detailed that Newman is listed in Serious Condition, but did not suffer any life threatening injuries. Further condition of Newman's injuries were not released.

Meanwhile in the race, Virginia native and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin took the win for the second year in a row, and his third win in the event overall.

Chris Buescher finished second, David Ragan was forth, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.
