Steuben County officials say that after a disaster team assessment on Sunday, The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes hit the Angola area during Saturday's night’s storm that swept throw Steuben County.

Rand Brown, Steuben County Emergency Management Director, said a damage survey team visited an area south of Angola Sunday afternoon. Brown said they confirmed an EF-1 and EF-0 touched down south of Angola and north of Pleasant Lake.

At least 15 properties had damaged south of Angola, including the Angola Bus Garage.

The two tornados were on the ground at almost the same time.

The first tornado hit the ground at about 6:30 p.m. for roughly one minute. It was classified as an EF-0 with peak wind speeds of 80 miles per hour and a path approximately 200 yards wide and .7 mile long.

The second tornado was an EF-1. The NWS said it had an estimated peak wind speed of 105 mph and was on the ground for .9 mile. The second tornado had more time on the ground than the first, traveling on land for six minutes between 6:34 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. It had a path width of 375 yards.

Down trees and limbs caused power outages throughout the county.

Damage to a 3-phase line near the Steuben County REMC office took out power to the Angola substation, which left many without power. The outage also affected phone lines at the Steuben County REMC office.

The incident Saturday night also included heavy rainfall, which caused areas of flooding throughout Steuben County and the tri-State area.
