Prairie Heights Community Schools • LaGrange, IN

By: Sheila McCrea

Brian Beebe has been named as the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Prairie Heights. Beebe was hired last month as an English Teacher for the high school, and now in addition to starting that role next school year, he will also lead the girls basketball program.

Beebee is no stranger to coaching girls basketball. In his current position at Montague High School in Michigan he went 12-10 in his first year at Montague in 2014-15, where the program had just 10 wins in the previous 3 seasons combined. He lead his team to District Finals in the 2015-16 season, went 15-8 in that season, which was the most wins at the school in a season since 1998.

When Beebee left Sturgis in 2013, he left the program in better shape than what he inherited. In his fifth season at the Sturgis helm, Beebe led the Trojans to the program's first district championship game appearance since 2006.

Before coming to Sturgis, he coached at Division III Mount St. Joseph and Heidelberg University, both in Ohio, and also served as Glen Oaks Community College head coach.

Coach Beebe says that he looks forward to getting in the gym and meeting his team. He said he is excited for the opportunity to build a successful program and to be a Panther.

In other Prairie Heights board action, Jim Magnuson was hired as the Prairie Heights District full-time substitute for next year. Michael Ware was hired as a high school Math teacher, while Trevor Ferrell was hired for an Elementary Physical Education teaching position. In addition, Randy Rathburn was hired as Assistant Girls Track Coach.
