Jobless rates went up slightly from March to April around Michigan. Data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget show the jobless rate went from an even 4 percent in March to 4.1 percent in April. Total employment advanced by 7,000 over the month, while unemployment increased by 4,000.
The April 2019 jobless rate was two-tenths of a point below the April 2018 rate, which was 4.3 percent. The State's jobless rate was also five-tenths of a percentage point above the national rate for April, which is at 3.6 percent.
Jason Palmer, Director Of The Bureau Of Labor Market Information And Strategic Initiatives, says total employment gains so far in 2019 have averaged 9,800 per month, while payroll jobs rose in April for the seventh consecutive month.
