No Injuries After a Car Verses Train Wreck
Thursday, February 14, 2019

No one was hurt after a Norfolk Southern train smashed into a car in Northwest, Ohio.

Investigators say a woman driving the car did not clear enough ice off of her windshield to see. As she tried to negotiate the weather on Defiance Street in Stryker, she saw the railroad crossing gates were down and the lights flashing. She told authorities she thought it was a weather related malfunction and tried to go around the gates.

The woman called 9-1-1 when her car ended up on the tracks caught. First units on the scene, advised the woman to get away from the vehicle.

Authorities also attempted to call the railroad to warn them, but were not able to do so in time. The train attempted to slow down, but could not avoid hitting the car. As a result, the vehicle was destroyed.

The train was delayed for a period of time for repairs.
