A manhunt was eventually called off after authorities searched for a suspect in a domestic battery incident for over an hour Thursday morning.
According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, officers were called to the 1300 block of Quincy Street in Altona, just west of Garrett, to investigate a domestic battery situation. The initial call came at around 7:30 AM.
First officers on scene found the victim, but the suspect had left the property. Investigators learned the suspect had left toward the CSX railroad tracks behind the property. Authorities set up a perimeter in the area, and K9's from the sheriff's department and Auburn Police were called in to search. Also assisting in the search was the Noble County Sheriff's Department who utilized their drones to search the area.
After an hour and a half, police called off the search after "all efforts to locate the male were exhausted," the sheriff's department said.
The condition of the victim was not released.
The incident remains under investigation, where charges are expected to be filed against the a male suspect, who was not identified.
