Monday, January 18, 2021

FREMONT – The death of a man at a Steuben County park has been ruled a suicide.

Indiana State Police say they were called Saturday to investigate a death at the Crane Marsh public access parking lot, located in the Marsh Lake Wetlands State Fish and Wildlife Area.

Detectives learned that an Indiana Conservation Officer came across a blue Volkswagen parked at the public access parking area just before 1 PM. The Conservation Officer approached the car to speak with the driver, and observed the driver had a gun in his hand and was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The driver, 46 year old Roswald Adkins of Flossmoor, Illinois was confirmed dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner's Office. Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technicians processed the evidence at the crime scene and confirmed that Adkins took his own life.

While attempting to locate next of kin, Indiana State Police learned through communication with the Flossmoor Police Department there had been a bulletin issued for Adkins. They described Adkins as driving the same vehicle he was found in, and was believed to be in possession with a 9 mm handgun. Adkins was wanted for questioning in an alleged child molestation investigation, for which it was believed that Adkins knew he was a suspect.
