Chicago Bears Hall of Fame Player Dies

Gale Sayers, a Chicago Bears legend and a resident of Wakarusa, Indiana died Wednesday at the age of 77.

Sayers was a lightning bolt in the Bears backfield, with the ability to take it the distance with every touch. During his run with the Bears from 1965-1971, the running back epitomized the phrase "keeps defenders awake at night." Sayers struck fear in the hearts of tacklers every time he touched the ball.

Not only was he a legend on the football field, but he was also a man of integrity. He, and former teammate Brian Piccolo, broke racial barriers with their remarkable friendship after being the first NFL players to be roommates where one man was black, and the other white.
