Voucher Accountability A Growing Concern

When it comes to Indiana school funding, there’s more bothering Dr. Phil Downs than just education dollars not keeping up with inflation.

During his talk Monday evening at Lakeland Junior Senior High School, the state’s superintendent of the year discussed how the voucher program increased the number of kids being educated without a corresponding increase in funding.

But what really rankles Downs is the lack of public accountability for those voucher dollars.

The Southwest Allen County Schools superintendent said if you group all
vouchers schools together, the $155-million dollars of education money makes them the state’s largest “district” and there is no public accountability for those dollars.
