Red for Ed Day Takes Hoosier State By Storm
Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Thousands of educators will gather at the Statehouse today for the Red for Ed event.

Some districts either voluntarily or from necessity canceled classes today. Other will keep kids in the classroom and send a few representatives instead.

Around 13,000 have registered for the event, and close to 20,000 are expected.

Education funding, standardized testing, and a hold-harmless promise from lawmakers to not hold teachers responsible for lower-than-expected iLearn
test scores are some of the concerns being brought to lawmakers.

Indiana ranks dead last in keeping up with teacher pay since 2002. But organizers are quick to point out that teacher pay isn’t the only issue being addressed by Red for Ed.
